SSL is highly recommended for transferring sensitive information over the Internet. WebDeal recommends considering SSL for web servers that handle the following types of data:

• Personal information
• Login information (user names and passwords)
• Business-sensitive information
• Credit card information

What is needed to operate an SSL web page ?

If you buy a dedicated managed server from WebDeal and specify that you want SSL support, we will fully prepare your web server for SSL. You can only run one SSL site on each IP address, so if you want three sites with SSL support we need to assign three IP addresses to your server.

You can choose among three types of layer:

WebDeal will normally recommend “Private certificate authority” for intranet and other less public services where a browser error does not affect the overall image of your company.

For public web pages we recommend “Public certificate authority”. WebDeal currently uses the public CA company Comondo Group to issue our certificate.
It might also be worth to look into the advantages of pre-distributed “Private certificates” for internal security. Combined with user name and password, pre-distributed “Private certificates” will significantly increase the security level of any web application.

Why not SSL on shared hosting ?

Besides being a technical standard for transferring data over the Internet, SSL is also a universally accepted standard for secure web pages. Handling trusted data in a shared environment significantly reduces the data security compared to a dedicated environment.
